FAQ

Will I have to buy my child an expensive uniform/dress?

Our class uniform is a simple t-shirt and shorts/pants.  Ghilles, or the special dance shoes, generally run $60-$70 new, but many dancers resell their shoes within the community so used shoes are often availble at a greatly reduced price.

The elaborate dresses you see are for competition, and only for higher level dances.  These dresses are quite expensive, but you will have many years to make decisions about your child's involvement before you are presented with these kinds of expenses.

Do you have boys classes or do you have boys in the regular classes?

Currently we have a boys class, but offerings depend on enrollment each year.

Do you teach ceili dancing?

Yes, we have a ceili dance class which teaches traditional group dances.

When do dancers start dancing with hard shoes?

Usually a few years after beginning lessons.

Are the dancers encouraged or required to compete?

At the Bracken School of Irish Dance we encourage the students to get involved only in what they are comfortable with and able for - whether performance, competition, or end of year shows.

How young do you start children in Irish Dance?

Our Wee Pat class starts at 3 or 4
